FNAR 205 Music Appreciation 3
Credit Hours
A non-technical course to enhance the student's understanding and enjoyment of music by a
twofold approach: first, to gain fundamental knowledge of style, content, and form of the
most outstanding works of the great composers; and second, to study the evolution of
musical art up to the present time; particular emphasis is placed upon the latter.
FNAR 206 Art Appreciation 3 Credit
Hours
The theory of abstract principles and material techniques as applied in the evaluation of
works of art. The employment of such theory in an introductory study of famous art works.
FNAR 207 Survey of Art History 3
Credit Hours
An introduction to the art of China, Egypt, the Mediterranean under Rome, Byzantium, and
Gothic Europe. Art works from Africa, India, and Japan will also be considered. Major
works will be discussed in relation to their cultural and philosophical context and
content.
FNAR 209 Music Theory I 3 Credit
Hours
Study of the components of musical composition; construction of major and minor scales,
identification of harmonic and melodic intervals, construction of primary triads and their
inversions, transposition of band instruments, sight singing and ear training.
FNAR 210 Music Theory II 3 Credit
Hours
Prerequisite: FNAR 209
Continuation of Music Theory I. The structure and use of all diatonic chords and their
inversions, identification of nonharmonic tones, introduction to modulations, sight
singing and ear training.
