David Goble Collection

David Goble, Class of 1969, was Regimental Commander and Commander of the Summerall Guards his senior year at The Citadel. Upon graduation, Goble was commissioned in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam.

Goble received his Master of Arts in American Literature from the University of South Carolina, and his Master of Library Science from the University of North Carolina. He spent 18 years in the banking industry before entering the library field. Goble started his library career at NC State University Library. He held positions at the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County (now Charlotte Mecklenburg Library), worked for EBSCO, a library services company, and served as Dean of Libraries at Central Piedmont Community College. Goble was State Librarian for South Carolina, prior to his return to The Citadel to serve as Director of the Daniel Library, The Citadel Archives, and The Citadel Museum from 2012 to 2018.

Goble's archival collection includes:

• Poetry, stories and thoughts written as a cadet
• Correspondence from 1968 to 1969
• Cadet ephemera, including programs and invitations
• Photographs from his time as a cadet, and later years
• Student newspapers from high school and college
• Letters of congratulations upon retirement, 2018
