Confederate Army officer, educator, lawyer, judge, Citadel graduate 1861. Haynsworth was lieutenant in 1st Regiment South Carolina Artillery.
Writing to his niece from Battery Ramsey, Haynsworth mentions scarcity of money; Union bombardment from Morris Island; Union prisoners to pass through Charleston; Hagood's Brigade ordered to North Carolina; and Robert Cooper, 1863 Citadel graduate, joining his regiment.
