Laycock was assistant treasurer of three Episcopal dioceses in Shanghai, Anking and Hankow, China in the summer of 1940. From 1942-1945 he was imprisoned by the Japanese in a concentration camp.
In his memoirs "A Prisoner in Cathay" Laycock describes his life in China and includes letters written to friends before imprisonment. Scrapbook contains camp newsletters March 26, 1944 - August 11, 1945 and concentration camp literature. Laycock was editor in chief of the newsletter.
