Confederate Army officer. Captain in Georgia's Bartow Artillery, Company A, 22nd Battalion, Georgia Heavy Artillery.
From "Hd.Qtrs. Citadel, Charleston, January 20, 1865", Niles mentions the defense of Charleston,cold weather, blankets and food. A boat sent to supply Fort Sumter (night of January 19th) ran aground and "now a wreck" (January 20th) after being fired on by Union Forces. Written to his wife in Griffin, Georgia.
