Citadel cadet, died in 1890 before graduation in 1891.
Writing to his parents and brother, Launtie describes cadet life, guard duty, debates (Calliopean Literary Society), merits, photograph of corps, uniform, glee club, hop, drills, classes, building west wing of The Citadel.

Mentions return to lamps as too many cadets' eyesights were ruined by gas and one may be blind. Poem, "Bed Bug Reveille" by Rivers describes the plague by vermin.
