Arthur Swanson attended The Citadel for two years before joining the war effort in 1943 to become a pilot. After being trained as a pilot navigator, he was reassigned for infantry training in the Eighty Ninth Division. He described combat duty in Germany near the end of the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he returned to The Citadel and graduated in 1948. Mr. Swanson mentioned that being a Citadel graduate and an English major was beneficial in his banking career.
