Officer in the Army Reserves, member of Citadel Class of 1939.
Thomas Thorne graduated from The Citadel in 1939 and received a commission as a second lieutenant in the Coast Artillery, Organized Reserve Corps. In World War II he served as Commanding Officer of an Anti-Aircraft Artillery unit during the Battle of the Bulge. Throughout the war he participated in a total of three campaigns, all in Europe. Thorne describes his decision to attend The Citadel and his thirty-five years in the Army Reserve.
