The SS Watson was the last blockade runner to cross the Atlantic Ocean flying the Confederate flag May 1865. The commanding officer of the Watson was Captain Peter Tecklenburg of Charleston, S.C. The Watson was turned over to the British after the Civil War.
The painting by A.A. Wichman was deaccessioned by the Museum and given to the Citadel Faculty House in 1990.
