• Photograph of the original Star of the West medal
• News clippings from the Joliet Herald-News
• The Citadel Cadets and the “Star of the West” by S.E. Welch, 1861 (Zouave cadet who was on Morris Island when the Star of the West was fired upon by Citadel cadets)
• Two letters from Mrs. Julia Ella Welch, 1965 (Mrs. Welch was the daughter of the man who designed and made the Star of the West medal. One letter describes how the wood was found to make the original medal.)
