Relates to Chapman’s active duty service, 1942-1945, as a B-17 pilot (lead pilot, operations officer, squadron commander), 614th Bomb Squadron, 401st Bomb Group, 94th Combat Wing, Eighth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps. Two overseas tours, November 1943-June 1944 and September 1944-May 1945. Thirty-seven combat missions from England into Germany and German-occupied Europe.
