1943.
The first cadets reported to The Citadel for duty on March 20, 1843. Twenty cadets were originally appointed to The Citadel and eight more were appointed on May 3, 1843. Corps Day, the birth-day anniversary of the Corps of Cadets, was first celebrated in 1943 on the occasion of the centennial celebration of The Citadel. A reenactment of the opening of The Citadel was presented on Marion Square at the Old Citadel on this occasion. Corps Day has been celebrated each year since that time on the Friday or Saturday nearest March 20.
