Confederate Army officer, Citadel graduate 1856. Nance was colonel in 3rd Regiment, S.C. Volunteers and killed in Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia May 6, 1864. He fought in Kershaw's Brigade, McLaw's Division, Longstreet's Corps.
Reports, supply lists, special and general orders, muster rolls, guard reports relating to the Third Regiment S.C. Volunteers. Letters 1861-1864 (typewritten transcriptions 146 p.) from Nance to his sisters describe fighting in S.C., Virginia & Tennessee. Nance's oration on the Declaration of Independence delivered in 1856 at The Citadel. Books include Hardee's Rifle and Light Infantry Tactics and Army regulations.
