Philippine Insurrection 1899-1901.
The Philippines had been trying to revolt against Spanish rule. In 1898 America declared war on Spain. (Spanish-American War).
May 1, 1898 Admiral Dewey destroyed the Spanish fleet in Manila Bay, Philippines.
June 12, 1898 Philippines declared independence from Spain.
August 13 the war ended.
Dec. 10, 1898 Treaty of Paris, the U.S. got the Philippines from Spain. Emilio Aguinaldo, leader of the Philippine revolutionary group, was angry the U.S. got the Philippinnes and began fighting the Americans.
March 1901 Aguinaldo was captured and he took an oath of allegiance to the U.S.
