Typed transcription of J.W. Brown's Civil War Journal (13 p.), biographical sketch, photocopies of images of Brown (one in Citadel uniform). Brown attended the SCMA from 1859 to 1861. Brown served in the 2nd Regiment S.C. Heavy Artillery from 1861-1865 and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. The unit was engaged in the defense of Charleston Harbor, primarily James Island.
