The Citadel invites you to campus October 8-10 to join in our annual Parents’ Weekend festivities. Highlights of the weekend will be the presentation of class rings to the First Class cadets, the Ring Ceremony and Hop on Friday evening, a military dress parade honoring parents on Saturday morning, and a home football game on Saturday afternoon. This weekend is a wonderful opportunity to visit the campus, meet faculty, staff, and administrators, and become more familiar with The Citadel, its history and traditions.

General Information
INFORMATION CENTER: Mark Clark Hall will be your Parents’ Weekend 2010 Information Center. Please come by the Buyer Auditorium, located on the second floor between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday. You will be able to purchase luncheon tickets, company pictures and Citadel mementos during this time. On Friday, football game tickets will be on sale at the McAlister Field House ticket office. On Saturday,football tickets will be available at the Johnson Hagood Stadium ticket office. PARKING: Please obey all campus parking and speed limit regulations. CAUTION: In Hampton Park the speed limit is 20 mph and parking is not allowed. Parking on campus is very limited; however, off campus parking areas within walking distance will be set up. A shuttle service will be provided to remote parking areas off campus on Saturday morning. Please do not park in the numbered/named spaces around the stadium, the Holliday Alumni Center, reserved campus lots, or in numbered cadet spaces. Vehicles in spaces reserved for the disabled are required to prominently display a disability access parking placard. WEEKEND ATTIRE: Casual dress is in order for all events except the Friday evening Ring Ceremony and Hop, which are formal for participants. Ladies usually wear long or tea length dresses. Dark business suits or tuxedos are appropriate for gentlemen for the ceremony and hop. Although the weather is usually warm during the day, please include a sweater, wrap or jacket for evening activities.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: In case of inclement weather, the parade will be cancelled. However, scheduled ceremonies or presentations may be moved to another location. Current schedules will be available at the Information Center in Buyer Auditorium and at www.citadel.edu.
WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS
FRIDAY SENIOR LUNCH: At noon Friday seniors will have the opportunity to have lunch with their parents and their mentee knob in Coward Hall.
PRESENTATION OF RINGS: At 1 p.m. Friday, members of the First Class will receive their class rings in a ceremony in McAlister Field House. For additional information, contact The Citadel Alumni Association ring office at 843-953-7696. Live webcast beginning at 1 p.m. at www.citadel.edu
ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTAL OPEN HOUSES: Faculty representatives will be available to meet with the parents in their respective departments from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday.
PARENTS’ INFORMATION RECEPTION: The information center will be open begining at 1p.m. on Friday in the first floor Reception Room in Mark Clark Hall. A photographer will be there with company pictures. Lunch tickets will also be on sale. Cadet clubs and other vendors will have items for sale. Football tickets will be available at McAlister Field House on Friday and at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Saturday.
REPORT TO PARENTS BY THE PRESIDENT: The president will address parents at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Buyer Auditorium in Mark Clark Hall.
RING CEREMONY: At 6 p.m. Friday members of the First Class, their dates and families will participate in the traditional Ring Ceremony held in McAlister Field House. Parents of seniors participating in the ceremony should check with their cadet for the exact time that their company will be going through the ring. All cadets, their families and guests are invited to attend. This is a formal evening for cadets and a wonderful opportunity for treasured family photos. A professional photographer will take a picture of every cadet as they come through the ring. Ring ceremony photos will be mailed to parents and should be available after November 22. RING/PARENTS’ WEEKEND HOP: The Department of Cadet Activities will host a hop (dance) from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. in Deas Hall.
COMPANY PHOTOS: Photos will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Mark Clark Hall Reception Room. On Saturday morning the photographer will be in Buyer Auditorium in Mark Clark Hall.
MORNING COFFEE: We invite you on Saturday morning starting at 8 a.m. to stop in for coffee and juice in Buyer Auditorium. Vendors will have mementos for sale including Citadel related art, scrapbooking materials, cadet company photos, and other gift items. Lunch tickets will also be available. Football game tickets will be available at the box offices of McAlister Field House and Johnson Hagood Stadium.
OPEN BARRACKS: One of our most popular Parents’ Weekend events is the opportunity to visit the five barracks on Saturday. Barracks are open from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Cadets’ rooms will open for your “inspection” and The Citadel Pipe Band will perform at all of the barracks. Other buildings and facilities will also be open to you.
CADET EVENTS: On Saturday morning, The Citadel Regimental Band will present a concert on Summerall Field and the Kelly Cup Competition will be held in Padgett-Thomas Barracks (Second Battalion). At 10:00 a.m. there will be a Fourth Class Promotion Ceremony in all barracks.
DRESS PARADE: The military dress parade honoring parents and grandparents begins at 11 a.m. Saturday on Summerall Field.
LUNCH: A one-time sitting, family style lunch will be served at noon Saturday in Coward Hall. A box lunch will be served in Deas Hall immediately following parade. Entrance to both will be by ticket only. Tickets are available by advance order and will be on sale Friday and Saturday in Mark Clark Hall. Tickets are $8 and free for children under 3 years old. A BBQ tailgate lunch will also be served at the Holliday Alumni Center across from the football stadium. For further information, contact The Citadel Alumni Association at 843-953-7696. Advance tickets are not required for this lunch option.
ATHLETIC EVENTS: The Bulldog football team goes up against Chattanooga at 2 p.m. Saturday. Halftime activities will feature a performance by the 2010 Summerall Guards. This game traditionally draws a large crowd and we suggest that you order your tickets (either reserved or general admission) early from The Citadel Athletic Ticket Office at 843-953-7181. The Citadel’s volleyball team will play Georgia Southern on Saturday at 7p.m. and Davidson at 2p.m. on Sunday in the McAlister Field House.
