The Citadel invites you to campus 20-22 October to join in our annual Parents’ Weekend festivities. Highlights of the weekend will be the presentation of class rings to the First Class cadets, the Ring Ceremony and Hop on Friday evening, a military dress parade honoring parents on Saturday morning, and a home football game on Saturday afternoon. This weekend is a wonderful opportunity to visit the campus, meet faculty, staff, and administrators, and become more familiar with The Citadel, its history and traditions.

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

INFORMATION CENTER: Mark Clark Hall will be your Parents’ Weekend 2006 Information Center. Please come by the Buyer Auditorium, located on the second floor between 8:00 am and 11:00 am on Saturday. You will be able to purchase luncheon tickets, company pictures and Citadel mementos during this time. On Friday, football game tickets will be on sale at the McAlister Field House Ticket Office. Saturday you will be able to purchase football tickets at the Information Center in Mark Clark Hall. Please call the Department of Cadet Activities (843) 953-5111 or the Athletic Ticket Office (843) 953-5121 if you have any questions.

PARKING: Please obey all campus parking and speed limit regulations. CAUTION: In Hampton Park the speed limit is 20 mph and parking is not allowed. Parking on campus is very limited; however, off campus parking areas within walking distance will be set up. A shuttle service will be provided to remote parking areas off campus on Saturday morning. Please do not park in the numbered/named spaces around the stadium, the Holliday Alumni Center, reserved campus lots, or in numbered cadet spaces. Vehicles in spaces reserved for the disabled are required to prominently display a disability access parking placard. For specific information about parking, call the Public Safety Office at (843) 953-5114.

WEEKEND ATTIRE: Casual dress is in order for all events except the Friday evening Ring Ceremony and Hop, which are formal for participants. Ladies usually wear long or tea length dresses. Dark business suits or tuxedos are appropriate for gentlemen for the ceremony and hop. Although the weather is usually warm during the day, please include a sweater, wrap or jacket for evening activities.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: In case of inclement weather, the parade will be cancelled. However, scheduled ceremonies or presentations may be moved to another location. Current schedules will be available at the Information Center in Buyer Auditorium.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

 

PRESENTATION OF RINGS: On Friday afternoon at 1:00 pm, members of the First Class will receive their class rings in a ceremony in Summerall Chapel. Seating is limited and by ticket only. Two tickets are provided by
The Citadel Alumni Association to each participant. For additional information, contact the Alumni Office at 843-953-7696. There will be a remote broadcast of the Ring Presentation in Buyer Auditorium, 2nd floor, Mark Clark Hall, for those who would like to watch the ceremony from that location.

ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTAL OPEN HOUSE: Faculty representatives will be available to meet with the parents in their respective departments from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon.

PARENTS’ DROP-IN: On Friday, 20 October, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm in the Holiday Alumni Center. Photographer will be there with company pictures. Also available for purchase will be football tickets and lunch tickets.

MEET THE PRESIDENT: The President, the Provost/Dean of the College, and the Commandant of Cadets will address parents at 3:00 pm on Friday at the Holliday Alumni Center.

RING CEREMONY AND RING HOP: On Friday, commencing at 6:30 pm, members of the First Class, their dates and families will participate in the traditional Ring Ceremony held in McAlister Field House. Parents of seniors participating in the ceremony should check with their cadet for a specific time that their company will be going through the ring. All cadets, their families and guests are invited to attend. Following this ceremony, the Department of Cadet Activities will host a hop, featuring The East Coast Party Band. This is a formal evening for cadets and a wonderful opportunity for treasured family photos. A professional photographer will take a picture of each cadet as they come through the ring. Ring ceremony photos will be mailed to parents and should be available after November 15. Carriage rides around campus will also be offered at no charge. COMPANY PHOTOS: Photos will be on sale Friday afternoon, 20 October, in the Mark Clark Hall Reception Room, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and at the Parents’ Drop- In at the Holliday Alumni Center. On Saturday morning, 21 October, the photographer will be in Buyer Auditorium, Mark Clark Hall.

MORNING COFFEE: We invite you on Saturday morning (starting at 8:00 a.m.) to stop in for coffee, juice and pastries in Buyer Auditorium and Bond Hall.

OPEN BARRACKS: One of our most popular parents’ weekend events is the opportunity to visit the four barracks on Saturday from 8:15 am to 10:00am. Cadet rooms will open for your “inspection” and The Citadel Pipe Band will perform at all of the barracks. There will be a Fourth Class Squad Drill Competition on the quadrangle of Padgett-Thomas Barracks (Second Battalion). Other buildings and facilities will also be open to you.

CADET EVENTS: On Saturday morning, The Citadel Regimental Band will present a concert on Summerall Field and 4th Class Squad Drill Competition will be held in Padgett-Thomas Barracks.

DRESS PARADE: There will be a parade honoring parents and grandparents at 11:00 am on Saturday.

LUNCH: A one-time sitting, family style lunch will be served at noon on Saturday in Coward Hall. There will also be a box lunch in Deas Hall immediately following parade. Entrance to both will be by ticket only. Parents may purchase tickets at the Parent Drop-In on Friday afternoon or during registration in Mark Clark Hall on Saturday morning. Cadets may attend lunch with their family members if they have picked up a ticket free of charge in the Treasurer’s Office prior to Saturday. It is recommended that parents have their cadet purchase lunch tickets the week prior from the Treasurer’s Office. Tickets are $8.00 per guest – no charge for cadets.

ATHLETIC EVENTS: The Citadel will compete against Western Carolina in football at 2:00 pm on Saturday. Halftime activities will feature the 2007 Summerall Guards. This game traditionally draws a large crowd and we suggest that you order your tickets (either reserved or general admission) early from The Citadel Athletic Ticket Office (843) 953-5121. The Citadel’s volleyball team will compete on Saturday, 7:00 pm, against Davidson and Sunday, 2:00 pm, against Appalachian State in the McAlister Field House.
