  GENERAL INFORMATION CITADEL STUDENTS/ALUMNI RECRUITERS

  GENERAL INFORMATION:
  The Gate is

a web based career management and recruiting system maintained by The Citadel Career Center,
for use by Citadel Students and Alumni to connect with Employers (and Graduate Schools), and is
powered by the NACElink Network, a partnership with NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers), Direct Employers, and Symplicity.

All information collected in The Gate resides on NACElink Network secure servers and is used to help connect candidates with recruiters. The NACElink Network is committed to student/alumnus, employer, and career center privacy. Please refer to the NACElink Privacy Statement.

CITADEL STUDENTS/ALUMNI:

1.

The Citadel Career Center provides a link from the Career Center website to NACElink. Students and alumni access NACElink directly from this link and create a personal password at the time of registration. Students and alumni input their data directly into the NACElink system. Candidates may update personal information at any time. The NACElink Network has access to personal information only for the purposes of providing customer service, trouble shooting, and technical services.

2.

Your private information (which may include your name, email address, phone, mailing address, and other resume-related information) is not shared with individuals or organizations outside of the Career Center unless you have authorized it via your use of The Gate, to include your participation in On-Campus Interviews, Career Fairs, Applying for posted positions, and Allowing your resume to be a part of Resume Books (see Privacy tab on your Home Page).

3.

Jobs posted to the NACElink System (The Gate for The Citadel) are not screened by the NACElink Network or The Citadel Career Center.

The Citadel Career Center makes every effort to allow only legitimate employers and graduate schools to post legitimate opportunities in The Gate. However, we cannot do a complete check into an organization's background or take responsibility for the actions of employees of individual organizations who post their opportunities with us. It is up to students/alumni to use reasonable caution when entering personal information on resumes. Additionally, it is also up to the job seeker to verify the accuracy of all opportunities. The Career Center does not endorse any particular employer or graduate school. We share information with students/alumni of The Citadel from interested employers and graduate schools. In the unlikely event that a problem is encountered with an organization listed through our office, please notify The Citadel Career Center promptly.

4.

While uncommon, fraudulent postings are possible within The Gate or any other job board you may use. A few tips for recognizing such postings are listed below. If you are ever uncertain about a posting, do not apply until you may be able to verify its authenticity. If you find such a posting in The Gate, please send an email immediately to HireCitadel@Citadel.edu and list the company name, job title, job ID#, and posting date so that we may review as best possible. We will then offer a suggestion as to how you may wish to proceed.

A posting may be fraudulent if…
~ You are required to provide copies of personal documents or credit card/bank account numbers without receiving anything in writing.
~ You are required to send payment by wire service/courier.
~ You receive an unexpected check or are offered a large payment or reward in exchange for depositing checks or transferring money through your bank account.

5.

KEEPING YOUR GATE ACCOUNT ACTIVE:
1. If you do not login to your account at least once every 60 days, it will go into an "inactive" mode. To re-activate, simply login to your account.
2. After 6 months of non-use, an account is "disabled" and will require you to email us at HireCitadel@Citadel.edu to re-activate it.
3.

If you elect to have your resume appear in the Resume Book and your account goes into either an "inactive" or "disabled" mode, your resume will no longer appear in the Resume Book. This is a default feature designed to keep the Resume Book as current as possible. (Those who allow their accounts to go inactive or become disabled should not be perceived by potential employers as actively seeking employment. However, as a professional courtesy, it is best for students/alumni to set their Privacy tab to "No" to keep their resume out of the Resume Book when not actively seeking employment). For more details about the Resume Book feature, please read Your Resume & The Gate.
4.

After 1 year of non-use by alumni or members of the most recent graduating class, we will attempt to contact you by email to determine if you are still using your account. If you do not follow up as indicated, we will close the account. (Students will be able to retain their accounts during their Citadel career). Should you wish to re-open a closed account, please contact HireCitadel@Citadel.edu.

  RECRUITERS:

1. The Citadel Career Center is a member of the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) and we follow their Principles for Professional Practice.

2.

Third Party Recruiters / Staffing Agencies are asked to identify their clients when posting, searching the resume database, and when working with students and alumni through our office per the NACE Principles for Third Party Recruiters (scroll down page). We believe that students and alumni need this information to make an informed decision regarding their application.

3.

The following types of advertisements are prohibited.
a. The advertising of "business opportunities" (which require financial investment) to our students.
b. The advertising of jobs that require students to promote the sale of products or services to other students.
c. The advertising of internships that do not involve regular and substantive in-person meetings and supervision by the employer while the internship work is being conducted.

4.

As candidates must sell their skills to employers, employers must sell their opportunities to candidates. The Citadel Career Center cannot compel interest by candidates. Consider all aspects of the posted position (description, company information, salary, benefits) and provide as much information as possible regarding your opportunity. Review your posting as if you were a candidate. What would you want/need to know before applying?

5.

The Citadel Career Center does not act as an employment agency and therefore cannot assist with writing job descriptions or determining appropriate salary levels. We provide the information and resources that enable Citadel students to make informed decisions about their career goals. The Gate is the main tool available for connecting employers to students (and alumni), who are ultimately responsible for selecting and applying for the positions which interest them.

6. Please review Internship Information before posting.

7.

If you regularly recruit college students, consider developing a web page specific to them (if you do not already have one) regarding your organization and your hiring process. Provide an email address to which they may send questions (or a specific individual[s] if possible). Also include an MS PowerPoint, streaming video, or other media link(s) regarding material you may cover in an information session. Provide a link to this site within your posting on The Gate.

You may also make such information readily available to our students and alumni by listing it within the Organization Profile section of your account. Students and alumni may view profiles of organizations in The Gate regardless of whether you have an active posting in the system.

8. Please refer to our Information for Recruiters' page for resources and information regarding all available recruitment methods. (Please note that as of 8/2/11, you will be directed to our new website URL for the Recruiter section).

9.

We will periodically review recruiter accounts in The Gate and email those with accounts that have been dormant for a period of 6 months - 1 year. Recruiters will be asked if they wish to keep their accounts active and the accounts of those who do not respond will be closed.
