The English Club

Nye PoetryThe Citadel English Club welcomes anyone who is interested in literature and promoting literacy in the community. Club members meet during lunch several times during the semester and are invited to participate in cultural enrichment activities and volunteer opportunities on and off campus. Dues for the year are $10. If you're interested in joining the English Club, contact an English Club officer or one of the faculty advisors, Kate Pilhuj or Lauren Rule Maxwell .

For the fall of 2010, the English Club plans to continue some of the events and traditions the group has established over the past few years.  In time for Halloween, the Club will once again embark on a “ghost tour” of downtown Charleston, a guided walk that features local history and folklore.  The end of the semester and onset of winter break signals the start of the Holiday Book Drive.  This campus-wide drive collects a variety of books to benefit the Trident Literary Association.  And, finally, the always popular end-of-semester English Club party lets cadets celebrate the end of classes and relax with food and music before their final exams.

For the spring, we hope to continue helping out with events like Science Night at James Simons Elementary School, schedule more visits to the veterans’ hospital to record oral histories, and perhaps catch a theatrical performance or two.
