Having started his career as a high school teacher, Tom now spends much of his professional time working with pre-service teachers in the MAT program and working with teachers in the Lowcountry Writing Project. He also teaches first-year composition courses in the undergraduate program, and is particularly interested in the transition from high school to college. In his most recent publication, he collaborates with a local high school teacher to examine differences between high school writing and college writing. He has also edited a collection of essays on this topic, Teaching Writing in High School and College: Conversations and Collaborations, published by NCTE.
