Final Report – Computer Services Committee, AY 2002-2003.
Alix Darden chaired the committee. Committee members: Ken Brannan, Nancy Bell, Alix Darden, Mark DelMastro, Frances Frame, Debbie Fisher (ITS representative, non-voting), Donna Gibson, Emily Gore, Hughes Hoyle, Susan Simmons, and Rod Welch .
The computer services committee met twice during the year, 10-10-02 and 12-5-02 and conducted most business via e-mail.
Accomplishments of the committee:
- A paper survey was passed out and collected at the fall 2002 all faculty meeting requesting information about how much time faculty expects students to use computers in their classes. This data was collected to assist the committee in deciding whether or not to make a recommendation that all students be required to have computers.
- Minor changes were made to the committee charter (revised last year) to be in compliance with Tom Thompson’s charter format requests.
- Twenty-one new computers were awarded to faculty requesting them.
- Four additional faculty received up-graded computers.
- The sub-committee examining the issue of whether students should be required to have their own computers was disbanded when one of the two members left The Citadel to take another job. Due to the lateness in the year of this change, the committee was not reformed.
