The Citadel Faculty Council – Meeting Minutes of May 5, 2005

Prof. Harry Davakos, Chair of Faculty Council, called the meeting to order at 11:00AM in Bond Hall 295.

Approval of Agenda: approved by those present.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from April 28, 2005 Faculty Council meeting were approved.

New Business

  1. Vice Chair: Prof. Tom Thomson (English Dep. Faculty Council Rep.) was nominated by Prof. Bill Woosley to serve as Vice Chair for the 2005-2006 academic year, and was unanimously elected by those present.

  2. Secretary: Prof. Jeff Davis (Civil Engineering Dept. Faculty Council Rep.) was nominated by Prof. Jeanette Moody to serve as Secretary for the 2005-2006 academic year, and was unanimously elected by those present.

  3. Constitution of the Citadel Faculty Council: A revised version of the subject document was reviewed and discussed (see meeting minutes from April 28, 2005 for previous discussion.) Several department names were updated and the Naval Science Dept. was added under Article III, Part B, Membership, after which, the document was unanimously approved by those present.

  4. Campus Committee Representation: Prof. Davakos discussed the how membership for campus is being changed from schools verses the former department/cluster system. The Committee on Committee’s will be asked to address this issue and provide a report at a future Faculty Council meeting.

  5. Travel for Faculty Interviews: This issue was discussed, focusing on the need for candidates to pay their travel expenses, out of pocket, and then receive reimbursement through submittal of a travel expense report. A review of this policy will be included as a future meeting agenda item.

  6. Faculty House Board of Governors: A call for nominations will be issued during Fall semester for faculty interested in serving on this board. Elections will be conducted shortly afterwards.
