Overview of Job Retention Services

Who Is Vocational Rehabilitation?
The South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department is the state agency mandated to provide services to individuals with physical or mental impairments to assist in preparing for, obtaining or retaining employment.
What Is The Job Retention Services Program?
JRS is a Vocational Rehabilitation program designed to help employees experiencing work-related difficulties due to a physical or mental impairment. Left untreated, this impairment can materially limit or hinder retention of employment.
What Services Are Available To The Eligible Employee?
Counseling, medical or psychiatric intervention, treatment for substance abuse, vocational and psychological testing, referral to other job services, job accommodation/modification.
When Would An Employee Be Referred To JRS?
When the employee is experiencing work-related difficulties (such as excessive absenteeism, tardiness, decrease in productivity, accidents or injuries, impaired concentration, lowered job efficiency or poor relationships with co-workers) arising from a physical or mental impairment.
What About The Cost?
The Vocational Rehabilitation Department is a tax-supported agency which provides services to employees with physical or mental impairments; therefore no additional fees are charged to the employer for the JRS program, nor to the employee for services directly provided by the department through its JRS program.
How Are Referrals Made?
Through Supervisory Channels or by the employee him/herself.
Is The Program Really Confidential?
Absolutely! If self-referred, no one will know an employee is using the JRS program. If employer referred, the only information communicated will be whether the employee kept the initial appointment.
