Sigma Delta Pi
Purpose:
To recognize and reward outstanding students of Spanish
within an exclusive society devoted to both maintaining academic excellence
in Hispanic studies and supporting the Hispanic community and its flourishing
culture.
Qualifications (as outlined by the
national chapter):

Students who have completed at least 3 years of college Spanish
(18 hours) or the equivalent thereof, including at least 3 semester hours
of a 3rd-year course in Hispanic literature or culture and civilization.
Students presently enrolled in this course are eligible for membership
if their instructor will certify that their work is a grade of B or better.

Grades in all Spanish courses must average at least 3.0 on
a 4.0 scale.

All eligible students must rank in the upper 35% of their
class.

Students must also have completed at least 3 semesters of
college work.

Finally, each candidate must demonstrate a genuine interest
in the Hispanic community and its culture in addition to possessing a sound
moral character. All qualifying and approved candidates will be initiated
in a ceremony to take place the beginning of March. Students interested
in membership must have either a verbal or written recommendation by a
professor of a literature, culture, or civilization level course to be
submitted to Dr. Del Mastro no later than mid February.
