Surface Warfare is the backbone of the
U.S. Navy. Its missions include strike warfare, amphibious (littoral)
warfare, anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. Surface warships
provide a visible global presence which enables the United States to project
power in support of its national interests. |
|
The Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) in
the Navy is one of the most challenging career choices you will ever make.
To become successful you must master the combined roles of a junior
executive and a professional naval officer. Flexibility, tenacity,
intelligence, motivation, self-discipline, and complete confidence in your
personal abilities are essential as you strive towards your ultimate goal --
command at sea of a Navy ship. |

The opportunities available to you as
a SWO are numerous. You will find yourself on the cutting edge of naval
technology, working closely with superior personnel on the Navy's most
advanced equipment. Imagine yourself as a weapons officer accountable for
the entire shipboard arsenal of a TICONDEROGA Class AEGIS Cruiser; or as an
engineering officer responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the
gas turbine propulsion plant of a SPRUANCE Class Destroyer; or, finally, as
a combat systems officer responsible for the proper operation of all
detection and tracking systems on board the Navy's newest ARLEIGH BURKE
Class AEGIS Guided Missile Destroyer. |
