Special Operations Officer
 |
|
The Special Operations community
provides ready capability in four functional areas: Explosive Ordnance
Disposal (EOD), Diving and Salvage, Expendable Ordnance Management (EOM),
and Mine Countermeasures. |
|
As a Special Operations Officer, you
may supervise numerous underwater operations. Examples include maintenance,
salvage, recovery, or repair of ships or submarines. Other tasks may
include search and recovery of downed aircraft, assisting other military
units or law enforcement agencies in diving operations, and participate in
research and development of new diving techniques and procedures. |

Officers in charge of Explosive
Ordinance Disposal teams supervise locating and identifying foreign and
domestic ordnance, rendering them safe, and ultimately disposing them by
exploding. Types of explosives range from conventional, chemical,
biological, nuclear, underwater, and terrorists type devices. Getting to
these devices may require SCUBA diving, parachuting, and tactical delivery
and extraction by unconventional methods. |
