Former football player to sing opera
(13 MAY) (View Article) Former Citadel offensive guard Morris DeRhon Robinson returns to his alma mater to perform at 3:30 p.m. today (Sunday, May 25)in Summerall Chapel. The concert is part of Piccolo Spoleto. Proceeds will go to The Citadel Foundation to benefit scholarships. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students and senior citizens. The Zinkon tradition
(10 MAY) (View Article) The last graduating senior traditionally gives a speech after receiving his or her diploma. This year’s speech was given by Cadet Grant Zinkon of Johns Island. Zinkon is following in the footsteps of his older brother Yancey, who gave the speech when he graduated in 1999.

The Class of 2003: A profile

South Carolina is the most heavily represented state in the class with 131 students walking across the stage followed by Florida (21), Georgia (20) and North Carolina (16).

Graduate killed in Iraq remembered at parade
(08 MAY) (View Article) Classmates along with the parents of Marine Capt. Benjamin Sammis paid tribute Thursday to the 1996 Citadel graduate who was killed in action in Iraq. Steve and Beth Sammis presented the "Captain Benjamin W. Sammis Class of ’96 Semper Fidelis Sword" to Cadet Robert C. Fiorille.

(01 APR) (View Article) In a speech before the Corps of Cadets on April 1, Citadel President Maj. Gen. John Grinalds said, "For many of us, this war in Iraq is very personal. It is for me as I feel a mixture of pride and worry with each day's news. My youngest son, Allen, is a captain in the Marines and a Cobra helicopter pilot serving somewhere in Iraq. There are seven cadets and three CGPS students who are not with us today because they have been deployed in this effort."

College reorganizes academic departments
(21 NOV '02) (View Article) An academic reorganization at The Citadel has created five schools out of 14 separate departments. The Citadel Board of Visitors has approved the creation of the schools of business, education, engineering, science and mathematics, and humanities and social science. College officials believe the consolidation of departments into schools should strengthen the ability of academic programs at The Citadel to attract broader support.

NBC affiliate to broadcast from Citadel
(18 NOV '02) WIS TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, S.C., will broadcast a portion of its morning news program from The Citadel campus from 5-7 a.m. Tues., Nov. 19. The show is part of WIS's College Tour around the state to find out what makes each one special. The Citadel broadcast will feature the regimental band, regimental pipes, Summerall Guards as well as the college president and cadets who succeed academically. The Army ROTC Rangers also will demonstrate the skills that led them to win several trophies during their most recent Ranger Challenge at Fort Jackson, also in Columbia.

Parking Restrictions Homecoming Weekend

Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Coming To The Citadel
(22 OCT '02) (View Article) Navy Admiral Frank Lee Bowman, director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion, will visit The Citadel on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002.
Bowman's speech, entitled "Submarine Force in an Era of Consequences: A Report on Integrating Military Capability," is part of the college's Greater Issues Lecture Series. It begins at 11 a.m. in McAlister Field House.

A new look and format for The Citadel's website
(11 OCT '02) Work is underway to convert many of The Citadel's web pages to a more useful, information-rich format. Pages that use the left-side nav bar (image link) will have a different look with this automated conversion. Pages that do not use the traditional nav bar will not be affected. This automated conversion should have little impact on those who maintain Citadel web pages.
