The
Citadel: Achieving excellence The Citadel, established in 1842, is a coeducational military college that offers young men and women a college experience that is intense, meaningful and academically strong.
The Corps of Cadets, which numbers 1,964 this year, is the nation's largest uniformed student body outside the federal service academies. All cadets are educated within a classic military system and each year more than one-third of graduating seniors earn military commissions. More than 600 Citadel alumni have gone on to serve or are currently serving their country in Iraq and or Afghanistan in support of the war on terrorism. The remaining graduates attend graduate school or enter the job market. Many have gone on to become outstanding leaders in business, industry, government and public service. The Citadel College of Graduate & Professional Studies, which is noted for academic excellence in a civilian environment, serves about 1,200 South Carolina Lowcountry residents and offers 25 evening graduate and undergraduate degree programs. All academic programs at the college are complemented by a strong commitment to service and emphatic support of an honor code that states students will not to lie, cheat or steal or tolerate those who do.
