Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa, the
19th president of The Citadel

On Friday, April 21, the man who led the Air Force Academy through a major cultural change will be installed as the 19th president of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carollina. Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa has returned to his alma mater and during his inauguration will unveil his vision about The Citadel's relevance in the 21st century.

You are invited to the cover this significant point in The Citadel's history, to attend the installation ceremony and to speak with Lt. Gen. Rosa during media availabilities.

Thursday, April 20

10 a.m. - Pre-inaugural symposium: Marching Through Time: The Citadel 1842-2006

Since its founding, The Citadel has been a mirror of major issues in American society. Three Southern historians will discuss The Citadel, its colorful history and the relevance of the military college in today's society.

  • Rod Andrew, associate professor of history at Clemson is author of Long Gray Lines: The Southern Military School Tradition.
  • Gary Nichols, professor of history at The Citadel is author of The General as President: Charles P. Summerall and Mark W. Clark as Presidents of The Citadel and of a forthcoming biography of Summerall.
  • Alex Macaulay '94, assistant professor of history at Western Carolina, is author of Black, White and Gray: The Desegregation of The Citadel and the forthcoming book, Marching in Step: The Citadel and Post World War II America.
