Alumni in Kabul, Afghanistan remember CPT Daniel Eggers

Alumni from the Class of 1983, 1986 and 1989 raised a U.S. flag in remembrance of Army Capt. Daniel
Eggers
, whose name graces the Camp of the Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan, the main headquarters in Afghanistan.

Lt. Col. Lou Rago, Lt. Col. Eugene "Chip" Lilliewood, and retired Lt. Col. Clemson Turregano, acting in the best tradition of The Citadel and its commitment to service, hoisted the national colors in honor of
Egger's sacrifice, and the sacrifice of all Citadel graduates. Later in the day, a wreath made up of The Citadel's colors was placed on the camp's memorial to Eggers.

This small symbolic act, occurring during Corps Day, reflects that The Citadel never forgets its own, Turregano said.

Eggers, 28, was a special forces detachment commander assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was killed in Afghanistan on May 29, 2004 when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device near Kandahar. The CFC-A Compound in Kabul, was named in his honor during a dedication ceremony on March 20, 2005.
