SUBJECT: Break Periods

1. Breaks during the workday are optional and approved at the discretion of the supervisor or the department head. Two 15-minute break periods are authorized for Physical Plant employees. The approved break times are 10:00 – 10:15 and 14:15 – 14:30. Transportation time to and from work site along with consumption of food and beverage are to be included within the 15-minute period.

2. Efforts should be made to take the break on the job site and not to relocate to the canteen or the Physical Plant compound. Supervisors have the authority to adjust breaks when interruption of job will cause unnecessary delays. This action should not be a regular occurrence. Additional breaks may be required when working conditions warrant.
