Lieutenant General George M. Seignious, USA, Ret (1974-1979)

General Seignious was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1921. He graduated from The Citadel in 1942. During World War II, he served in the European Theatre as a Platoon Leader and Operations Officer.

After the war, he held numerous positions serving with the Joint Brazil-U.S. Military Commission, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, 1952-1955; Military Member of Secretary of State Dean Rusk's delegation to ANZUS and SEATO, 1966; Military Advisor at the Paris Peace Talks in Vietnam, 1968; and Director, Joint Staff, Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, 1972.

General Seignious became President of The Citadel in 1974. He resigned in 1979 and became Director of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament agency with the rank of Ambassador.
