v    The newest Star of the West Scholarship recipient is Keane Steele from Vale, NC.  He is a graduate of West Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, NC.  Congratulations, Keane!

v    There is Board of Trustees meeting on the 12th of November at 9 am at the Executive Conference Room in Bond Hall.

v    Greetings from Charleston. I want to share this with you all as a bit of feedback on what our efforts with the Star of the West are doing. I have for the last 3 years been sitting on the selection committee to select Citadel candidates for the Rhodes, Fulbright and Marshall Scholarships. As you know in the last two years we have had two Fulbright winners from cadets who took part in the STOW Summer Study Abroad Program. It has been very evident that this program has helped our guys tremendously at the national level in competing with other better financed schools that offer foreign study. This year was no exception. Two very qualified candidates who will be pushed by The Citadel and both participants in our Study Abroad program. One in fact, Andrew Brooks, from Springfield Va. is, in my opinion, going to be our FIRST RHODES winner--he is good. We sent him to Germany and Turkey in the last two years. ; But this is the icing on the cake--one of the questions I ask him "why he chose The Citadel?" His answer: "because I talked to a cadet who told me about the summer study program abroad which VMI and VPI did not have and that was the difference".

Guys we have made a difference in getting better students and making them more competitive. Duck would be proud.
