Charleston, SC - Ben Varn '62, who was enshrined in The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990, has been selected for induction into the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame during ceremonies on December 3 in Hilton Head.
As a player for Coach Don Bunch, Varn captured various Southern Conference and state titles including leading the Bulldogs to the 1961 league championship. An Air Force veteran, Varn, who coached at The Citadel (1975-78) and Wofford, continues to compete on the state's Senior Cup team as he has since 1986. Varn was inducted into The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990Varn, who lives in Inman, becomes the Hall of Fame's 41st inductee and his portrait will be displayed at the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame in Belton.

The 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III University Division Men's At-Large Team was announced on Thursday. Junior Nick Medica was named to the first Academic All-District III team. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
Medica, an Atlanta, GA native, has maintained a 4.00 GPA for three years.
First team selections will appear on the national ballot for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large team.
