William N. Trumbull, PhD
Dean and Robert A. Jolley Chair

William "Bill" Trumbull became the new Dean for The Citadel School of Business and Robert A. Jolley Chair on July 1, 2013. He comes to The Citadel from West Virginia University where he had been a faculty member since 1983. During his tenure at West Virginia University, he served as chairperson of the Department of Economics, director of the Division of Economics and Finance, and interim dean of the College of Business and Economics. He received his Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of Miami and his PhD in economics from the University of North Carolina. This past fall he served as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Pécs in Hungary.


A strong proponent of international education at his prior position at West Virginia University, Dr. Trumbull has led study abroad programs to China, Cuba, and Europe.


He specializes in the socialist and post-socialist economies, economics of crime, and public economics and has published in Economic Journal, Review of Economics and Statistics, Public Choice, International Review of Law and Economics, International Regional Science Review, and other journals.  His current interest is entrepreneurship in transition countries.
