JuniusHave you ever wondered what it would be like to write for a magazine or newspaper? Do you have a piece of writing you'd like to submit for publication, but don't know where to start? Would you like to learn about freelance opportunities from Lowcountry writers and editors? Do you enjoy writing and want to explore ways to share your words with others? If you'd answer "yes" to any of these questions, this is the course for you.

Freelance Writing for Fun and Profit will give you the opportunity to learn about different types of writing styles and venues and help you polish your writing for publication. Through field trips, guest speakers, and peer review, this class will provide interactive instruction designed to inspire imaginative approaches to and critical thinking about writing.

In this course, you won't be writing any traditional academic research papers. You'll get the opportunity to explore other genres, like feature articles, travel essays, art reviews, and memoirs. You'll have the opportunity to be creative with your work, and for many units you'll be able to choose your assignment. Most pieces you'll workshop in small groups to further refine and develop them.
